STARBUCKS: WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN

Starbucks is making Sir Isaac Newton proud: the Seattle coffee chain announced on the first of the month that this year and next, it will be closing 600 of its 2300 U.S. stores that opened since 2006.

The closing stores are ones that are considered 'under-performers' and 12,000 employees are said to be notified of their lay off. The company is going to try to help their freshly unemployed baristi find work at neighboring stores.

Wow. And we thought the entertainment industry was the one suffering. However, economically everyone seems to be...how should we say...not doing so well. For Starbucks, it sure doesn't help that McDonald's has joined the coffee biz too. But hey, maybe this means we'll have some good independent stores popping up again. Remember the Buzz in Cincinnati or Insomnia in Columbus? Ah yes.

At least nobody is accusing Starbucks of terrorism!
